Meal Replacement Bars in Case of Emergency

Published on February 05, 2010 with No Comments

We all have busy lives and at times, we will, no doubt, find ourselves in a situation where we just do not have the time to sit and have a healthy meal – especially if you are working on a deadline or you have a busy day that finds you on the go!    So, how do you make sure to eat a well balanced, nutritious meal?

Fortunately, meal replacement bars are available and it is a good idea to have a few on hand for those “crunch” times when you need the nutrition without the headache.  Although eating meal replacement bars as a way of life is NOT recommended, these meal replacement bars are effective and will get the job done if taken in moderation.

The first thing you need to know is that meal replacement bars are not all created equally.  This means that some bars offer better taste and nutrition than others.

Traditionally, meal replacement bars are available for two types of people.  Those who want to lose weight and those who want to gain it.

If you want to lose weight, you want to choose a bar that is low in sugar (this is very important) as, in may instances, the sugar content is increased in an attempt to make the bar taste better.  You should also look for a bar that offers protein and is low calorie and low in fat.  Typically, these are the type of replacement bars that women will be looking for.

If you want to gain weight, you want to choose a bar that is high in protein and has a sugar content that is higher than the “diet” bar but is not so high that the bar simply becomes a chocolate bar!

There are a lot of varieties available, in a lot of different flavors and many are very well known commercially, which does not necessarily make them the best choice for you.

Here again, you need to do your research when it comes to the best meal replacement bars for you.  Log onto the Net and read up on the pros and cons of each one and if possible, try to talk to friends and families and people at your local gym to get their “take” on which bar is the best one.

Finally, here is a list of some of the bars that you might consider buying.  Keep in mind that the prices vary from about $20.00 to $50.00 for 20 bars or so.

Labrada Lean Body Bar

MET-Rx

Myoplex Lite

Nitro-Tech Hardcore Bar

NuGo Bars

Nutribar

PowerBar

Regardless of the bar you choose, remember that nothing beats a healthy, home cooked meal loaded with grains, proteins, fruits and veggies.
